They pulled carts, carried loaded packs, and did other kinds of farm work. These animals tend to live 25-35 years, with 47 years being the longest on record for this domestic animal. Females live in small herds or groups, and males live alone or in unstable groups.

These are sweet faced, soft eyed, friendly and affectionate animals that tend to make very docile pets for their owners. The animals originated in Africa.
